Leslie S. Liu has
been selected as one of only 8 students to
participate in the 2006 Watson Emerging Leaders in Multimedia
Workshop organized by the IBM T. J. Watson Research
Center in Hawthorne, NY, to be held on October 16-17, 2006

September 12, 2006: I participated in a panel
at the Video on the Net
conference which was part of Fall 2006
VON. The topic was
"Is Video Peer to Peer a Money Making Option?" VON was held at the
Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC).

September 5, 2006: Sakire Arslan Ay and
Leslie S. Liu will
be giving presentations at the USC Marshall School's Fall
Technology
Exposition.
August 31, 2006: The annual
Computer Science RAP
Day will be held at the Gerontology Auditorium from 8:30 AM
to 5 PM. All CS students are invited! Undergraduates, Masters
and PhD students are welcome! Registration will close Tuesday,
August 29 at 4:00pm. I will give a talk on "IMSC and Ubiquitous Media" at 1
PM.
August 30, 2005: Min Qin passed his qualifying exam today.
Congratulations! His forthcoming dissertation focuses on "Supporting
Multimedia Streaming Among Mobile Ad-hoc Peers with Link Availability
Prediction."
August 26, 2006: The TPC meeting of the 2007
Multimedia Computing and Networking Conference (MMCN '07)
was held at the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst.
August 22, 2006: We have been granted a patent on
"Pseudo-Random Data Storage" (US Patent #7,096,328). You can

August 11, 2006: I gave a talk on our HYDRA project at UC
Irvine's ITR RESCUE
center as part of their RESCUE
Seminar Series.
July 17, 2006: The paper
submission deadline for the 2007 Multimedia Computing and

May 4-6, 2006: The team from DMRL competed in the US
Finals of the Imagine Cup
2006, held at Microsoft's Headquarters in Redmond,

May 3, 2006: Wei-Shinn Ku
passed his qualifying exam today.
Congratulations! His forthcoming dissertation focuses on
"Location-based Spatial Queries with Data Sharing in Mobile Environments."

April 10, 2006: We have been awarded
an Interdisciplinary Grant from USC's James H. Zumberge Research and
Innovation Fund. The focus of our work will be on
User-centric
Patient/Clinician Distribution Platform with Tele-Rehabilitation
Application Case Study.

selected as one of 15 teams to compete in the US Finals of the

February 27, 2006: A joint IMSC/Marshall team
qualifies for the largest business plan competition in the
United States. Leslie Liu from DMRL and his teammates from the
Marshall School of Business are selected for the competition

February 10, 2006: We have received an NSF award
(IIS-0534761)
from the program for Advancing
Collaborative and Intelligent Systems and their Societal Implications.
The grant supports our HYDRA - High-performance Data
Recording Architecture for Streaming Media project.
January 17-18, 2007: I will be co-chairing the Fourteenth Annual Multimedia
Computing and Networking (MMCN 2007) conference to be held in San Jose,
California (part of the Electronic Imaging Symposium).
October 23-27, 2006: The ACM Multimedia 2006
conference will be held at the Fess Parker Double-Tree Resort,
Santa Barbara, California. The
