Information technology (IT) extends
into all sectors of the economy, and is evolving rapidly; today’s
research is establishing tomorrow’s standards. IT professionals
need a strong understanding of fundamental principles to be ready
for these developments. While a basic degree may have sufficed in
the past, a graduate degree will become the norm in the future.
The Master of Computing at the School of Computing has been designed to meet these needs. It is a comprehensive and challenging graduate programme with area specialisations that encompass the latest research, both fundamental and applied.
Candidates may specialise in one of these areas:
- Computer Science; or
- Infocomm Security; or
- Information Technology Project Management
The programme may be taken either full-time or part-time. Classes are conducted on weekday evenings at the Kent Ridge campus of NUS.

In this premier programme leading to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
qualification, research students of high calibre work closely with
our professors who are recognised internationally for the
achievements in their respective areas of specialisation.
Most PhD research students received full tuition fee subsidy, and also
hold full scholarship with various top-ups (totalling S$1,500 to S$3,100
per month). In addition, PhD students receive travel grants to attend
international conferences (on average, two to three international
conferences per PhD degree study).
For international students, an added advantage of
pursuing further studies with NUS School of Computing is that the cost
of living in Singapore is low in comparison with the West, yet the
quality of living is widely noted to be comparable.
Our research areas include but are not restricted to
the following:
Algorithms and Theory Artificial Intelligence Biomedical Computing Database Management Systems Information Security Media, Graphics and HCI Programming/Software Engineering Systems and Networking Culture and Information Systems Economics of Information Technology Electronic Commerce Electronic Government Group Support Systems Negotiation Support Systems Online Information Privacy User-Database Interaction
