Application Procedure

1. Application

There are various methods of application for our graduate research programme
but on-line applications are STRONGLY preferred.  

*Important Note:

If you wish to be considered for more than one department, you must submit a
separate application. There is no limit to the number of applications you can
submit.  However, each application must be accompanied by separate fee
payment and supporting documents. 

Unless granted approval by our University, no candidate may concurrently
be a student for more than one degree or register as an NUS candidate and
of another university/institute.

2. Password (for online application only)

When submitting your application online , you will be asked to enter a
6-character Password. Your Password is important and can be used,
together with your application number, to access the following online
facilities related to your application: 

  • Online Application Status Enquiry*
  • Online Update of Contact Details
  • Online Reply to Offer of Admission

*Note:  If you have posted your supporting documents and payment
(by bankdraft), please allow 4 weeks for postal delivery before checking
your admission and payment status. 

3. Application Fee

The following non-refundable application fee is payable for our research programme.

Mode of Applications Application Fee
Online application S$20/- per application (inclusive of 7%GST)
Paper-based application S$40/- per application (inclusive of 7% GST)

Please send your proof of payment together with your application package.  Please note
that an application without the application fee payment will not be processed.

The modes of payment are:

Local Students:

a. Complete the relevant Application Fee Form and send it together with a cheque (should be crossed) made payable to “National University of Singapore”.  Please write your name, mailing address and programme applied for at the reverse side of the cheque; or

b. Complete the relevant Application Fee Form and make payment by NETS at the Student Service Centre (located at Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) during 8.30am – 4.30pm from Monday to Friday.

International Students:

Complete the relevant Application Fee Form and send it together with a bank draft (drawn on a bank in Singapore in either Singapore dollars or US dollars equivalent) made payable to “National University of Singapore”.  Please write your name, mailing address and programme applied for at the reverse side of the bank draft.

4. Checklist

Applicants should submit to the Graduate Division the completed forms and supporting
documents which include the following:

  • The complete Declaration Form
  • A copy of completed Application Form /or the Online Application Form
  • Research Proposal (at least 2 pages long)
  • A copy of citizenship certificate/passports/identity card
  • Certified true copy of degree certificates - Bachelor's/Master's
    (with English Translation)
  • Certified true copy of transcript - Bachelor's/Master's (with English Translation)
  • TOEFL/GMAT/GRE (General) score sheets
  • 3 referee reports
  • Personal statement
  • Copy of publications (if available)
  • Other supporting documents (e.g. award/prize certificates)
  • Application fee of S$40/- OR S$20/- (inclusive of 7% GST; cheque payable to
    "National University of Singapore" or bank draft attached with Application Fee Form)

Any omission of information or supporting documents may render the application form
void.

Documentary Evidence

Applicants should submit an official transcript of academic records from each
university attended. They are responsible for requesting their transcripts from
the university concerned. Please use the transcript request form for this purpose.
If they have attended more than one university, they should make photocopies
of the transcript request form as required.

For foreign graduates, the official transcript must be enclosed in a SEALED
envelope with its flap bearing the security seal of the University and the
signature of the Registrar or his representative . Supporting documents, if not
in English, should be accompanied by copies of the English translation of the
documents.

Research Application Deadline

Applications are accepted year round, and will be considered for the next
nearest intake. There are two intakes per academic year, and the cut-off
dates for each intake are:

  • August Intake: 15 November* (of previous calendar year)
  • January Intake: 15 May (of previous calendar year)
* Deadline has been extended to 15 December.

Applicants who have just missed the deadline for an intake but wish to be
considered for that intake may email us at grad-info@comp.nus.edu.sg.
We will try our best to accomodate your request.

Notification of Application Results

Successful candidates will be notified of the results of their applications
by 31 May (for the August intake) or 31 October (for the January intake).
