PhD (by Research): Scholarships
 
 


Research Scholarships

Financial Assistance in the form of Research Scholarship is available, on a competitive-basis to all full-time students who meet the minimum criteria. The Research Scholarship will carry monthly emoluments, plus full tuition fee subsidy. Candidates with good undergraduate degrees in computer science or information systems are invited to apply for research scholarships. These are for pursuing full-time PhD programmes by research in the School. They are tenable for one year in the first instance and renewable annually for up to four years for PhD candidates, subject to satisfactory performance . Each scholarship holder will receive a non-taxable monthly allowance of S$2,000 (for international students) and S$2,300 (Singapore Citizens). Graduate students who passed their PhD Qualifying Examination will be awarded an additional top-up of S$500 per month (for two years) during their PhD candidature.


President's Graduate Fellowship (PGF)

The PGF is awarded to candidates who show exceptional promise or accomplishment in research. A number of Ph.D. research students are selected each semester by the University for the award. Selected awardees will receive a monthly allowance of S$3,000 (international students) and S$3,300 (for Singapore Citizens). The award is tenable for the duration of the up to a maximum of 4 years, subject to an annual review of the scholar’s satisfactory progress.

Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships

The Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships are NUS' most prestigious scholarship awards for graduate students. Up to 5 new awards will be given each year. Each award covers:

(i) A monthly stipend of S$3,000;
(ii) Research, examination fees and other approved fees at NUS;
(iii) An annual book allowance of S$500;
(iv) A one-off air travel allowance of two return tickets of up to S$4,000 (only for overseas students); and
(v) A one-off laptop allowance of S$1,500;

Tuition Fees

Unless otherwise indicated as one-time fee, mandatory miscellaneous fees as payable per annum.

 

Loans

Students can request for loans up to 90% of their fees.

 

Medical Insurance

All full-time candidates are required to enroll for the medical insurance scheme, unless they have already taken up similar insurance scheme themselves. Research scholars will be automatically enrolled in the medical insurance scheme, which will take effect from the first day of the following month after registration. The prevailing insurance premium will be deducted from the stipend on a monthly basis.
