John LIM Lai Huat

Dr. John Lim is Associate Professor in the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore. Concurrently, he heads the Information Systems Research Center. He was Visiting Professor at Keio University, Tokyo, spring 1998, under the sponsorship of the prestigious Hitachi Fellowship.

Dr. Lim graduated with First Class Honors in Electrical Engineering (1988) and a M.Sc. in MIS (1990) from the National University of Singapore, and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (1995). His current research interests include collaborative technology, negotiation support, and media effects. He has published in MIS and related journals including Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Human Computer Studies, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Behaviour and Information Technology, Journal of Database Management, and Small Group Research. He won a Best Paper award (with Dr. Izak Benbasat) in HICSS in 1992 for his conceptual work on Negotiation Support Systems. He has served on program committees of conferences, and as special guest associate editor for Information Systems Research. A major part of his current research plan addresses the multi-lingual and cross-cultural aspects of negotiation support.

Dr. Lim has taught courses in areas including management science, advanced systems analysis and design, information systems theories, and research methodology. In other institutional work, Dr. Lim has actively contributed toward strategic planning and has served in the Executive Committee, the decision-making body of the School. Currently, he serves on the Scholarship and Bursaries Selection Committee, Department EXCO, Search Committee, and the Building Committee, and handles teaching assignment. In recognition of his teaching performance, he has been invited into the Science Teaching Assurance Review (STAR) Committee, Faculty of Science; he was also in the Curriculum Committee of the School, teaching committees to examine critical teaching-related matters, and the Graduate Studies Committee for address issues related to graduate education and process graduate applications. By appointment of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Lim has previously served as a member of the Advisory Council of a local school.”
