Joint IS/Business Team Succeeds in International MIS Case Competition

An NUS team comprising our IS undergraduate, Mahesh Kumar, and two School of Business undergraduates (Lai Wai Kit and Sherry Goh Xue Li) have bettered more than a dozen other teams in the CaseIT 2010 international MIS case competition, to secure the second runner-up position.

A/P Pan Shan Ling (second from the left) coached the NUS team, including IS student Mahesh Kumar (third from the right), which secured the second runner-up position in CaseIT 2010.

The annual competition offers students an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they obtained from the classroom to real-life business scenarios through strategic IT analysis and presentation.

This year's competition, held in Canada from March 31 to April 3, saw undergraduate teams from 16 universities vying for the first prize. The NUS team was the only one from Singapore that advanced through the preliminary round, conceding to Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi from Italy and Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in the final round.

The joint team was advised and coached by our Department's very own A/P Pan Shan Ling. Dr. Pan also coached the NUS team in last year's competition, who clinched the first prize.

Besides training, the undergraduate team also met and consulted with industry experts. The team was judged by a panel consisting of industry experts, from companies such as SMART Technologies, SAP and Vancity Credit Union.
