Objectives

The Centre for Information Mining and Extraction (CHIME) is set up in the School of Computing, National University of Singapore, with the following objectives:
  • To research into the use of AI techniques for problem solving and knowledge discovery;
  • To achieve a common goal of information mining and extraction from different AI research areas;
  • To develop techniques in information mining and extraction from a variety of information sources, including electronic text, document images, graphics images, medical images, and medical information, and digital libraries.

Why CHIME?

The Centre is named "Centre for Information Mining and Extraction" and is pronounced as CHIME in short which will also serve as the acronym for the center. CHIME is a musical instrument, consisting of a set of bells, which, if struck properly, will produce harmonious ringing of sound. Hence, the word CHIME thus also means agreement or accord. This is in line with the centre's two objectives: (1) a concerted effort in achieving a common goal of information mining and extraction from different AI research areas in the School of Computing; and (2) the elicitation of meaningful and coherent knowledge from seemingly unmanageable information masses.

Location

CHIME is located in block SOC1, at rooms 06-10 and 06-11. The nearest car park is Car Park 10. Please visit the University Camp map and key in Lecture Theatres LT33 or LT34 to locate block SOC1.
