Advances in networking and telecommunications technology have led to increased physical connectivity but not logical connectivity. The latter requires heterogeneous and autonomously administered systems to engage in meaning exchange of information instead of mere bits and bytes. A high level of interoperability is an important pre-requisite for efficient exchange of goods and services. The goal of this project is to develop an effective information infrastructure that facilitates information integration and brokering across a large network of autonomous systems. This work is supported by NUS Research Grant NUS/RP 970628.

This features of such a system is demonstrated via a prototype system developed in cooperation with Standard Chartered Bank. In conjuction with this development, we have also conducted a survey of consumer attitudes toward Internet Banking. This survey was conducted in the last quarter of 1996 and has been useful in identifying contributing factors for the success of Internet Banking in the context of Singapore.
