Wu Wen-xiang, a computer engineering graduate, spent a year taking courses at Stanford University under the NUS Overseas Colleges programme. A year in the red-hot competitive environment of Silicon Valley led to an idea to create software which lets businesses chat online with customers via their websites in real time. He and his partner transformed the idea into a firm named Zopim, which was subsequently bought by an American company Zendesk for nearly US$30 million (S$40.1 million).
