SoC 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner to Jump-start New Funds toward Student Development

The 10th anniversary celebrations of NUS School of Computing (SoC) are gathering new momentum with
the launch of the Computing Student Development
Fund and an alumni financial award scheme for needy students.

To jump-start the efforts, all proceeds from the ticket
sales of SoC 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner will go
toward the two student development initiatives, with
the full cost of the dinner being underwritten by the
School.

As the money collected for each dinner ticket is in
essence a donation, it will attract a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the government.

So if you are an alumnus or well-wisher buying a full-
price $118 dinner ticket, you are generating a tidy
donation of $236 toward nurturing computing talent in
Singapore. And if you are a student buying a $50 ticket,
you are doing good by generating a donation of $100 toward the same noble cause.

In addition, all donations from Singapore tax residents
are eligible for double tax exemption.

The Computing Student Development Fund has been
set up to allow more Computing students to gain
international exposure and professional qualification.
Money will be drawn from the Fund to subsidise
students’ overseas study trips and certification courses such as SAP, IBM, Oracle and Sun.

The new financial scheme being set up by the Computerand Information Science Alumni Association or CISAA (and tentatively called the Computing Alumni Assistance Award) seeks to provide needy students in the School with financial assistance.

Alumni and other well-wishers buying individual dinner tickets may opt to have their ticket money channelled to either the Computing Student Development Fund or CISAA’s assistance award for students.

Groups or corporations buying a table may also opt to have their ticket money channelled to either option, or allocate varying proportions of the money to both the Fund and the award scheme.

Individuals and corporations seeking a worthy cause to support are most welcome to buy a table at a premium price of their choice.

As donations, all individual ticket sales and table sales are eligible for double tax deduction (details here).

Come join in the celebrations of Computing history in Singapore, and play a part in its future by buying a dinner ticket and generating a donation of twice its worth towards nurturing the next generation of Computing talent.
