NUS SoC Dean Recognized for Sustained Contributions to Database Systems and Database Management Research

rofessor Ooi Beng Chin has been conferred the ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award for 2009. ACM SIGMOD stands for the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Management of Data, and the Award is an annual event

that recognises individuals who have made sustained and significant contributions to the field of database systems through research funding, education, and professional services.
 


Prof Ooi was presented the award at the ACM SIGMOD 2009 conference, held in the city of Providence, Rhode Island, United States from June 29 to July 2. The ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award is the second international award that he has received in recent months. In January 2009, Prof Ooi was made Fellow of IEEE for his leadership in database management technology. IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Various chapters of the association bring together experts in diverse fields of technological pursuit, including the gamut of specialisations in computing.
