NUS School of Computing (SoC) hosted a visit by a delegation of government officials and civil service staff from Thailand’s Tak province on 5 July 2006.

The delegation of 30, headed by Tak Deputy Governor Mr Cherdsak Chusri, was in the School to learn more about e-government, particularly the initiatives taken by Singapore.

SoC Assistant Professor Pan Shan Ling, who has authored a number of scholarly papers on e-government in Singapore, shared his insights. SoC Instructor Mr Calvin Chan also gave a presentation on the subject.

Dr Choonhapong Thaiupathump, Director of the e-Learning Center in Rangsit University, was on hand to translate the presentations into the Thai language, and convert the queries from the Thai visitors into English.

The visit ended on a warm note with both sides exchanging mementoes. Dr Pan presented Mr Cherdsak, Dr Choohapong and Mr Yutthajij Jiansuwannapas with signed copies of his book on e-government.

Mr Yutthakij is the Assistant Vice President of the Thailand Innovative Administration Consultancy Institute. The Institute, and its affiliation, Thailand's Civil Service Commission, had initiated the visit.
