SoC Professor Lauded for Most Influential Paper


 

P rofessor Joxan Jaffar has received an award from the Association of Logic Programming for the most influential paper for 1984-2004.
 



It is for a paper titled “Constraint Logic Programming”, which he co-authored Jean-Louis Lassez, and published at the Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages (POPL) in 1987.

The award recognises work in logic programming that has withstood the test of time and made its mark in shaping research in the field over two decades.

According to Libra Academic Search, Prof Jaffar’s 1987 paper is ranked first in the entire history of POPL.

POPL is listed as one of the top three conferences in Libra Academic Search.

Libra Academic Search is a computer science bibliography search engine from Microsoft.

Prof Jaffar’s research interests are in programming languages and applications, with emphasis on the logic and constraint programming paradigms.

Amongst his main contributions are the principles of constraint logic programming, and the widely-used CLP(R) system.

His current interests centres around program analysis and verification, and the design of concurrent programming languages.

Prof Jaffar was Dean of NUS School of Computing from 2001 to 2007, and Head of the Department of Computer Science from 1998 to 2001.
