SoC graduates Varun Chatterji, Rishi Israni and Indradeep Biswas
must be rather proud of their achievements over the past year:
Their start-up company, tenCube, which is currently being hosted
at the SoC Incubation Centre, has won the grand prize in the 7th
Startup@Singapore Business Plan Competition. It is the latest
in a series of achievements chalked up by the start-up, founded
by the three SoC alumni and fellow NUS graduate Darius Cheung
from the Engineering faculty.
Jointly organised by NUS Entrepreneurship Centre, NUS Business
School Alumni Association and NUS Entrepreneurship Society, the
competition is targeted at aspiring entrepreneurs. Participants
submit business plans which are then assessed for their merit by
a panel of judges comprising successful entrepreneurs, business
angels, finance/legal professionals and educationists.
As top winner in the competition which concluded in June 2006,
tenCube walked away with S$30,000 plus the Lenovo Technlogical
Invention Award. The win is another feather in tenCube’s cap.
Earlier, in February 2006, WaveSecure, the anchor software of
tenCube, was voted among the top 10 wireless products in the
Asia-Pacific by Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting
company.
WaveSecure is a software product that allows individuals and
companies to keep mobile phones and the data stored in them
secure from unauthorised use. It started off as a hobby project,
built on an idea conceived after one of the tenCube founders
lost a new mobile phone. It has since been featured in various
technology showcases, and also garnered the support of the
Singapore Police Force in a product trial.
