In the afternoon of 23 August 2006, LT 34 saw a temporary change
of occupants from the usual lecture crowd to a mix of the
brightest and the distinguished at SoC Corporate Affiliates Day
2006.
In the audience were the key managerial and technical
personnel from leading organisations that the School works with,
and they were there to applaud our Faculty-level Awards winners,
Dean’s List students and Dean’s Graduate Award winners for
Academic Year 2005/6.
Kicking off the award presentation, four students received
the Faculty Award winners from Dean Joxan Jaffar. They were Kim
Yyong Andrew and Tan Wee Kek, winners of the Accenture Book
Prize, and Deepa Ramanathan and Guo Fei, winners of the Tata
Consultancy Services Asia Pacific Prize.
Next, in recognition of students on the Dean’s List for
2005/6, Vice Dean of Undergraduates Studies Associate Professor
Khoo Siau Cheng read out the full list. The students then stood
as the audience acknowledged their achievements with a warm
round of applause.
Following that, Vice Dean of Graduate Studies Associate
Professor Wynne Hsu presented to the audience Rong Guodong and
Mamata Bhandar, winners of the Dean’s Graduate Award from
Computer Science and Information Systems, respectively. They
represented the bigger group of winners who were received their
awards at a separate ceremony held earlier in the month.
Ahead of the award presentation, the industry representatives
were given an update on the School’s various initiatives,
including the Advanced Technology Attachment Programme (ATAP),
the revamped Master of Computing programme, and a sampler of
research collaboration with industry. The Infocomm Development
Authority of Singapore’s (IDA) Assistant Director for Manpower
Development Dr Nanda Kumar Karripur rounded off the information
presentation segment with a talk on IT trends and the agency’s
manpower development blueprint.
Among the distinguished audience were the School’s Industry
Advisory Committee (IAC) Chairman, Professor Alex Siow (Senior
Vice President, Corporate Sales, StarHub Pte Ltd) and IAC
members Mrs Foong Swee Hoon (Divisional Vice President, IT
Infrastructure and Planning, Singapore Airlines Ltd) and Ms Tham
Ai Chyn (Assistant Chief Executive, Industry and Cluster
Development, IDA). Members of the School’s Executive Committee
