LAN GAMING (LGF) 2007
Qualifying rounds: 10am, 16 June 2007
Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals: 17 June
Venue: E2Max @ Cine-Leisure
National University of Singapore (NUS) Students’ Computing Club,
the student body of NUS School of Computing (SoC) is holding one
of the most anticipated events in Singapore’s gaming industry -
The LAN Gaming Festival (LGF) 2007. This is an event where
gamers from all over Singapore can come together to use the
strategy formulation, decision making skills, resource
management and teamwork that they have learnt through gaming to
compete for attractive prizes. The event also seeks to promote
original Intellectual Property (IP) and anti-piracy.
This non-profit island-wide LAN gaming competition is co-organised
with Singapore Games Academy (SGGA) and Singapore Computers
Society (SCS). Endorsed by Singapore Gamers’ Association and
sponsored by National Computer Systems (NCS), E2Max and Aztech,
the event is open not only to tertiary students but also the
general public. The two games featured in the competition are
‘Counter Strike 1.6’ and ‘Defense of the Ancient’. Other than
providing an opportunity for local professional gamers to test
their skills against other gamers in Singapore, this event also
serves as a good platform for amateur and intermediates gamers
to hone their skills in a competitive environment with a mere
six-dollar registration fee per person. Winners and runners-up
can walk away with a grand total of $3500 cash and prizes.
Other than providing a platform for local gamers to practise
their skills, LGF 2007 also sets an example of how students can
make a difference: At LGF 2007, NUS Students’ Computing Club,
together with SGGA, takes a proactive stand towards original IP
and anti-piracy. To that end, participants in this festival are
encouraged to play original games in a very practical way: They
are given the privilege to purchase E2Max membership card at a
discount of 30% and to play original games at E2Max LAN shop at
a discount of 20%. In addition, LGF 2007 participants can loan
the latest games for free at the Cine-leisure Games Academy, and
also purchase selected original games at the lowest rate in
town.
LGF 2007 kicks off with the qualifying rounds at 10am on 16 June
2007 at Cine-Leisure E2Max. It will span two days, with the
quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals to be held on 17 June at
E2Max @ Cine-Leisure. The expected number of gamer participation
is 320 while the total outreach audience is expected to be over
1000. More details at:
