Information for Freshmen
School of Computing

Dear Freshmen

On behalf of NUS School of Computing, welcome to our undergraduate   programmes beginning 3 August 2009!

Even though the first semester begins on 3 August, we have lined up a  series of events for you as early as seven weeks before the semester  begins.

It is important that you attend these activities to familiarise yourself with the course structure and degree requirements, and at the same time, be oriented on the use of computing facilities and academic culture in the School. In particular,

1. For students pursuing a Bachelor of Computing degree, you are required to attend an introduction to your first programming course on 24 July 2009. Through these short sessions, you can acquire a better appreciation of the first programming language (be it Java or Scheme).

2. All students are invited to the Dean’s Welcome Tea specially prepared for you on 24 July 2009. In this event, you will be able to mingle with faculty members and your peers so that you have a better understanding of the opportunities we provide at the School. You can also begin to choose your intended majors after this event.

3. For students pursuing a Bachelor of Computing programme, you are required to attend a course briefing on 29 July 2009. There, I will give you an update of the course structure and degree requirements. Please take note of the time and venue for this event:
     Date: Wednesday, 29 July 2009

Time: 9 am to 12.00 noon

     Venue: Lecture Theatre 17

We will also introduce you to the use of Centralised Online Registration System (CORS) for module bidding during this session.

Yours sincerely

Khoo Siau Cheng (Dr)
Associate Professor & Vice-Dean (Undergraduate Studies)
