Blackberry Computing Scholarship

 

Research in Motion Singapore Pte Ltd (RIM) has generously pledged an expendable gift of $45,000 in setting up of a non-endowed Blackberry Computing Scholarship fund for undergraduate students at the School of Computing.

   
  Nature and value of Scholarship
 

Up to two Scholarships will be awarded each year to the undergraduate students at the School starting from Academic Year 2011/2012. The value of each Scholarship is $7,500 and is tenable only for the Academic Year (AY) in which it is awarded.

Research in Motion Singapore Pte Ltd will award recipients of the Scholarship a Blackberry Smartphone each.

There is no bond attached to the Scholarship.

The tenure of the Scholarship is one academic year and the recipient will not be considered for the same award again for the duration of his/her course of study.

   
  Application and Selection Procedure
 

Applications for the Scholarship must be made using the prescribed application form by March annually.

In making its recommendations, the Selection Committee shall consider the following:-

  1. There will be no constraints on applicants’ nationality, race or gender.  
  1. Applicants should be:
    1. New students intending to read Computing at NUS; or
    2. Existing full-time School of Computing undergraduates (including CEG students) who are not in their final year of study, and who have not received the Blackberry Computing Scholarship previously.
  1. For new students, their academic achievement, such as ‘A’ level or Polytechnic Diploma or High School national qualifications results, and their achievements at relevant competitions will be taken into consideration.
  1. Existing full-time School of Computing undergraduates (including CEG students) must have both a Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of at least 3.8 and a Semester Average Point (SAP) of at least 3.8 in their previous semester to apply.
  1. Applicants with other forms of support such as grants, bursaries and scholarships will need to obtain prior approval from the respective awarding bodies for the concurrent holding of the awards; they must indicate such approvals explicitly during their application.
  1. Priority shall be given to students without holding any scholarship.
  1. Besides academic achievement, the selection committee will also take into consideration leadership potential, good character, and records of co-curricular activities as selection criteria. All else being equal, financial need may be used as a deciding factor.
   
 

Disbursement

 

For existing students, results will be made known before Semester 1 of the following academic year. The Scholarship will be disbursed through NUS Office of Financial Services in Semester 1 of the following academic year.

For new incoming students, results will be made known in Semester 1 of their freshman year. The Scholarship will be disbursed through NUS Office of Financial Services in Semester 1 of the new academic year in August.

   
  Date of Application
 

All application forms are to be submitted to the School of Computing Office of Undergraduate Studies at COM1 #02-05 personally during office hours on and before end March annually . Incomplete of late applications will not be accepted.

   
  Dates of Interview
 

The interview dates are tentatively scheduled in the month of April. Applicants will be notified if there are any changes to the dates.
