Students cannot break up the period of attachment. They must serve their internship for three months between May-July.

Attachment timeline

The timeline for May to July 2012 rollout of SIP is as follows:

Submission of Project Proposals

Companies take part in SIP by invitation. On registration, companies will be provided with the necessary information so that they may submit project proposals online. The project proposal submission period for the forthcoming deployment of SIP is 14 to 28 Feb 2010.

Selection of Candidates for Internship

After students have made their project selection, companies may review the CVs of students who have chosen their projects, and shortlist them online. Companies may also choose to interview students who have chosen their projects via an online scheduling system, and finalise their offers to students online.

When a student has confirmed with the School on the acceptance of a project offer from a company, the company will be informed accordingly. Once a student has been allocated to a company project in this manner, the School will not permit changes to the student’s choice. Students who subsequently withdraw their acceptance, or fail to complete the attachment with their host organisation, will receive a "Completed Unsatisfactory (CU)" grade for CP3200: Internship on their academic transcript.

Full-time Attachment

Students are expected to work with the host company full-time during their internship.

Supervisors

Each student project will be co-supervised by the student’s mentor from the School.

Dress Code and Reporting Procedure on the First Day of Attachment

Students should dress appropriately in office attire and take with them their Identification Card, Bank Account Number, Bank Name and Branch.

Leave

Students may be granted leave at the host organisation’s discretion. For non-official matters that are beyond the scope of project work with the organisation, the organisation has the right to deduct the student’s pay; however; this policy may vary from organisation to organisation. Students are advised to abide closely by the Human Resource practices of the organisation.

Medical Leave

Students are to inform their supervisor at the organisation if they are sick or need to consult a doctor. They are not to take leave without their supervisor’s prior knowledge. Students on medical leave will need to submit a medical certificate to their supervisor.

Vacation Leave

Paid vacation leave for students can only be granted at the discretion of the organisation.

School Matters

Student should request permission from the host organisation to attend to school matters such as registration of modules, etc.

Project Reports

Students are to submit to their SoC project supervisor a final report at the end of their internship.

Allowance

We recommend that students be paid a minimum of S$1000 per month. Organisations are exempted from making CPF contributions for the interns they take in under SIP.

Insurance

Students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own insurance policy before going for their industrial attachment.

Visa

Students on overseas attachment may need to apply for a visa from the host company. For that purpose, students should request an offer letter from the organisation, which should be submitted to the local embassy/high commission/consulate with the necessary application forms and other support documents.

Disclaimer of Liability

The School will not be held liable or responsible for any change to properties and/or injuries suffered during attachment.
