A lot of talented Indian students with a rich dramatic background come to study engineering in NTU every year. However most of them are caught in the academic fray, and haven't found time to come up with any organized form of drama. It was only this year, when a small group of these students put up a proper one act play, that we realized what potential is being wasted. It was then that the idea of having a dedicated group to sustain this talent, germinated.

So we have decided to launch this dramatic venture with a bold initiative -- to grab people's attention with a public performance... not just for Indian students, not just NTU students, but for the entire Singaporean public. This performance would be geared towards proving to ourselves, as well as others, of the excellence we can achieve, and the thrill of entertaining the audience with some quality drama. If it is successful, we can look forward to such future productions on a regular basis, and more performances at a lesser scale, targeted at students in more informal settings.

The production is being headed by Golam Ashraf, a graduate student in NTU. Ashraf comes from Calcutta, a melting pot of theater, and has actively taken part in plays and musicals, both in English and Bengali since his kindergarten days. He has acted in several plays in Singapore, his latest being the role of eccentric professor, in Iuegene Ionesco's "The Lesson", as part of Hall IX, NTU's maiden public performance.

Given the extremely enthusiastic response from the students and faculty, we are very optimistic about the quality of performance, and we envision the birth of an amateur group with professional capacity, adding color to the vibrant Arts scene of Singapore.
