Change
in Modular Credits of Computing Modules
The modular credits for modules are updated based on new
definition by the University Committee on Educational Policy (UCEP), mainly
3-MC modules become 4-MC modules. Please see http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~cmcurric/soc23chap7.pdf
for the change in the modular credits of modules in the new academic year.
Modules will assume the new modular credits for CAP computation if these
modules are attempted in the new academic year 2002/2003.
The total MC requirement for BComp degrees for the cohorts
1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 remains the same. That is,
·
4-year
programs: at least 135 MC; and
·
3-year
programs: at least 105 MC.
Also, please refer to http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~cmcurric/soc23AppendA.pdf
for the most up-to-date description of modules offered by the School.
(B)
CS1232 Discrete Maths II
The School will offer
CS1232 (Discrete Maths II) for this academic year (in both semester 1 and 2,
2002-3) before closing the module. Students who are required to take CS1232 as
part of the program requirement must do so in this academic year. CS1232 is 4
modular credits for this academic year. Starting in Semester 1, 2003-4,
students will need to take an ST-coded course from Department of Statistics and
Applied Probability to replace the requirement for CS1232. It can be: either
ST1232 or ST2131 or ST2334. Please be reminded again that there should be no
double-counting of modules in satisfying the programme requirement.
The updated programme requirements for
BComp (Computer Science), BComp (Computer Engineering) and BComp (Technology
focus) for transitional students from the 1999, 2000 & 2001 cohort will be:
Replace the requirement for CS1232 by the following:
either CS1232
or an ST-coded module from ST1232
or ST2131 or ST2334.
(C)
Update
of Modules CS3214 and CS3214S with effect from AY2002/2003.
Details are given below:
(i) Rename CS3214 Software Engineering Project to CS3214
Information Systems Development Project
(ii) Change the
module code of CS3214S Software Engineering Project to CS3215 Software
Engineering Project
A student may read both modules : CS3214
and CS3215.
For module descriptions, please refer to:
http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~cmcurric/soc23AppendA.pdf
Update the requirement for passing CS3214S to a pass in CS3215.
CS3215 is a new code for the course CS3214S (Software
Engineering Project).
This change in programme requirements
will apply to transitional students from the 1999, 2000 and 2001 cohort.
(D) Changes to Degree Requirements for
B.Comp. (CS) programs
To replace the PROGRAMME ELECTIVES from
Choose four level-4 modules from elective areas A1 to A4
to
Choose four level-4 (or above) modules from elective areas
A1 to A4.
(E)
Changes
to Degree Requirements for EC/IS programs
For the curriculum of academic years 2000/2001 and 2001/2002, the group of modules for the EC/IS programs is given below:
CS4245 Computer Based Learning and Instructional Technologies
CS4250 IS Research Methodologies
CS4251 Strategic IS Planning
CS4252 Control, Audit and Security of IS
CS4261 Forecasting and Time Series Analysis
CS4265 Advanced Topics in E-Commerce
be updated to the following:
CS4245 Multimedia e-Learning Environments
CS4250 IS Research Methodologies
CS4251 Strategic IS Planning
CS4252 Control, Audit and Security of IS
CS4253 Information Systems Consulting
CS4261 Forecasting and Time Series Analysis
CS4265 Advanced Topics in E-Commerce
This change includes CS4253 as another module for students to
choose from. CS4261 is no longer being offered by the School, students who have
already completed CS4261 can still use it to fulfill their degree requirements.
Also, CS4245 has a title change, students who have already taken can use it to
meet their degree requirements.
(F)
CS2250/S
IS Theory and Practice
The above
has been renamed to Fundamentals of Information Systems.
(G)
CS3252
Management Science
Management
Science is no longer offered by the School of Computing as an elective module
in A5 starting this academic year.
Students in E-Commerce and IS Programs can replace it by BZ3415 from the
School of Business to fulfil their degree requirements.
(H) Discontinuation
of Modules
The following modules are no longer
offered:
Areas A1 to A4, A8:
CS3281 Programming in Unix
CS3236 Scientific Computing
CS3247P Speech and Language Processing
CS4222 Adv. Networking: Protocol Design &
Implementation
CS4230 Computational Complexity
CS4234 Combinatorial and Graph
Algorithms
CS3281 is replaced by CS2281. The School will not be
offering the CS4230 and CS4234 modules at undergraduate level starting the
academic session 2002-3. They will be introduced at post-graduate level.
