AY2011/2 Semester 2
Continual Assessment - Tutorials and Assignments

Tutorials

Tutorials are small group forums where you present and discuss answers to the tutorial questions, and raise your doubts for clarification. Answers come from you, not from your tutor. Your tutor can then build on your contribution to bring up any intricate points that have been overlooked, or to correct any misconception.

The success of tutorials hence hinges very much on
  1. your PREPARATION beforehand,
  2. your ACTIVE PARTICIPATION in class, and
  3. after-class REVISION.
Attendance for tutorials will be taken. Unless otherwise stated, you do not need to submit your work for grading.

To encourage discussion even after tutorials, answers are usually not provided, except in some cases where answers to selected questions may be posted. I encourage all students to discuss tutorial questions in the IVLE discussion forum.

Practice makes perfect. Look for more exercises on your own, either from the textbook or elsewhere.

Assignments

A few assignments will be given out. You are reminded that all submissions must be from your own effort, and must be submitted on time. Late submission will not be accepted. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and offenders will be dealt with. (Refer to Plagiariam website.)

  • Assignment #1 | Answers will be released during lecture on 2 February.
    Clarification:
    • For question 3, we will base on the floating-point representation covered in lecture.
Deadline: 2 February 2012, Thursday, at the beginning of the lecture. If you are unable to attend the lecture, please submit to me (COM1-03-12) before 2 February, 3pm. If I am not in office, please slide it under my door.
    Answers
For assignment #2 onwards, you are to download the questions from this page. You are to submit your assignment by uploading your file onto the IVLE workbin of your tutorial group. You may send in a word document or a scanned file in pdf format.

Please follow the instruction on naming your file. Please rename your file to include your matriculation number, eg: A0071234X.doc or A0071234X.pdf.

You are to do the assignments on your own. Please do not copy from others, or allow others to copy from you. Penalty will be given to the offender. Late submission will not be accepted.
