  13. What is the University Level Requirements for students matriculated in AY2001/2002?

  1. What is the total MC requirement for my batch with the revision of new curriculum in AY2002/2003?
    • The total MC requirement for a 3-year programme and 4-year programme are 105 and 135 MC respectively
  2. There is an increase in modular credits of computing modules in the new academic year. How will the increase in MC affect us?
    • Modules will assume the new modular credits for CAP computation if these modules are attempted in the new academic year 2002/2003.
  3. Is HR2001/HR2002 still a degree requirement for the batch 2001/2002?
    • For students admitted in AY2001, the HRM has been dropped. You must still fulfill the total MC requirement for graduation. You can read free electives to make up the difference of 3 MC.
  4. Can CS1231- Discrete Mathematics I - 3 MC be used to satisfy the pre-requisite of higher level modules that requires CS1231 - Discrete Structures - 4MC ?
    • Yes.

  5. CS1232 is no longer a requirement for any program. Will the School continue to offer CS1232?
    • The School will offer CS1232 for another year (AY2002/03). After that, the course will be dismounted, and students requiring CS1232 to satisfy his/her program requirement but have not done so, will need to take either one of the following in replacement: ST1232, ST2131, and ST2334. Please be reminded again that there should be no double-counting of modules in satisfying the program requirement.

  6. Is ST2334 a new requirement? It is not required in the AY2001/2002 curriculum for the BComp(Business Focus). Does this mean I have to take it now?
    • No.

  7. What are the changes to old CS2205/S IS Theory and Practice?
    • CS2250/S IS Theory and Practice has been renamed to Fundamentals of Information Systems.

  8. What are the changes to old CS3214/S Software Engineering Project?

  9. If I am in the Information Systems programme, can I take CS3215 to replace CS3214?
    • No.

  10. By fulfilling the requirements for any two programmes offered by the School, can a student graduate with both majors in the degree?
    • No. Because there are substantial overlaps between any two programmes offered by the School, a student cannot claim both majors in the degree. Furthermore, double degree when approved is only for cross-faculty degree only.

  11. When is the last time one can move to another stream?
    • The latest is at the end of the 5th semester. More precisely, one should do so 3 weeks before week zero of the 6th semester.

  12. The programme elective of the 3-year programme requires me to take five modules from elective areas A1 to A8. Can these five modules be of level-2?

  13. What is the University Level Requirements for students matriculated in AY2001/2002?
    • Students matriculated in 2001 except those from the University Scholars' Programme (USP) will be required to fulfill the University Level Requirements as reflected in the table:

    Intake 2001 (Interim Period)
      Modular Credits (MCs)
    GEM 8 MCs (3 yr)/ 8 MCs(4 yr)
    Singapore Studies 4 MC

    Breadth: Elective outside student’s Faculty

    8 MCs (3 yr)/ 16 MCs(4 yr)
    Total 20 MCs (3 yr)/28 MCs(4 yr)

There are 2 subject groups within which GEMs are placed, namely,

    (i)   Subject Group A: Science and Technology; and

(ii)  Subject Group B: Humanities and Social Sciences.

During the interim period, you will be required to read at least one GEM from Subject Group B. Each GEM is worth 4 MCs. To facilitate broadening, the GEMs students selected to read should not be those cross-listed with their declared major/minor areas.

Students need to read 1 Singapore Studies module. Singapore Studies modules carry the SS prefix. Students should ensure that they do not register a cross-listed module bearing the GEM code for fulfillment of the SS requirement.

For unrestricted electives (UE) outsides student’s Faculty, students will be required to have a minimum of 8 MCs for a three-year degree programme, and 16 MCs for a four-year degree programme. Please note that although unrestricted electives outside student’s Faculty may come from the same pool of modules offered as CFMs, there is no pass/fail option for students who are fulfilling the University Level Requirements.
