The replacement of CS3213 by CS3214 will definitely delay
my graduation. What should I do?
-
If a student is in the CS or IS stream and have already

3 enrichments with at level 2 and above?
-
How do we drop the technopreneur minor?
-
For the new technopreneurship minor, if someone's taking
it, and it requires CS1304, then can CS1304 be double counted both as CFM
and tech essential?
-
Does having a pass in "A" level econs mean that you fulfill
any requirement for EC1310? Does it mean that you can take other modules
whose prereq is EC1310, or any programmes which needs EC1310, but you dun
get the MC's for 1310, and it is not considered as a module passed?
-
The total CFM MCs we have got so far does not telly with
the NUS side and the ScC side. Is that OK?
-
Since CS3214/CS3214S is of 8 MC's. Is there any compensation
in Modular credit for taking such a course?
-
If we want to take an SoC module as a CFM (for example,
CS1302/3/4 can be considered as a CFM for CS students), can we choose the
pass/fail option for the module?
-
When can a module be double-counted for minor and something
else (programme essential, CFM, level-2 enrichment, CFM + level-2 enrichment,
etc)? Is there a limit to how many modules can be double-counted for minor
and what's that limit?
-
In what circumstances do the module grabbing process (whether
it was grabbed thru CFM quota, CFM, normal add/drop, green form, blue form,
etc) matter for the usage of the module (essential, elective, enrichment,
CFM, minor, various double-counting, etc)?
-
which streams can take cs1105 as a CFM?
-
Can the science module mc2305 (Microbes, Environment
and Man) be considered as a bio module?
-
What is the relationship between QET, ET1000, and CS2301?
-
how many extra semesters are given to a student who
has completed all the graduation requirements for a major, but is registered
for a minor and has not completed the requirements for the minor, to complete
the minor?
-
by fulfilling the requirements for CS and IS, can a student
graduate with both majors in the degree?
-
when is the last time one can move to another stream?
-
Is there a limit on the number of CFM modules one can
take?
-
How does the change in the School curriculum affect the
UROP programme?
-
How many level 5 and level 6 modules can one take?
Can these be used to meet programme requirement?
-
I am in XX stream, and I have taken MAxxxx, is it confirmed that the module
can be regarded as one of the two CFMs we need to fulfill?
-
Check if the module code MAxxxx appears in your programme
specification.
-
If it does, then you can't treat it as a CFM.
-
If it does not, then you can treat it as one of the
two CFMs you need to fulfill; and it does not matter what method you apply
to grab this module.
For instance, MA1100 can be considered a CFM for
CS stream, but not for IT; and MA1102 can be considered a CFM for IT stream,
but not for CS stream.
-
For an enrichment module, is it confirmed that a pass/fail 2000 cross fac,
can be considered both as a CFM and an enrichment?
-
Yes, but up to 2 such CFM.
-
For enrichment, CS3281, the 2 MC new Unix module, can also be considered
as one of the 3 enrichments of 2000 and above?
-
For a person in CS stream, if he has taken cs2101 AND gone for IAP (cs3102),
can cs2101 be considered as one of the 3 enrichments of 2000 and above
since now it is no longer offered?
-
No. Because cs2101 is required by cs3102; both together
form a package that satisfies the project requirement.
-
For a student who is in CS stream, and he wished to transfer to IT stream,
what is the procedure for doing so? Can he select between IT-Tech or IT-Biz?
-
Procedure: Get the form from General Office, fill
up, and submit it to the head of the CS department (Attention: Ms Jane
Lim)
-
Selection between IT-Tech/Biz : No, as this division
of focus is only available for students registered after academic year
1998/99.
-
Can I take CS3214 or CS3214S in replacement for the project requirement?
-
No. You must meet the project requirement by taking
either CS3101 or CS3102.
-
I am in the IT Stream. Can I treat CS2250 or CS2251 as a level-3 module
in meeting the elective requirement?
-
Yes, provided
-
you have taken CS2250 or CS2251, and
-
you have not taken CS3213 before, and
-
you are taking/will be taking CS3214/CS3214S.
Taking CS2250 or CS2251 now or later cannot be used
as a level-3 module in meeting the elective requirement.
-
If I take a module in elective areas A1-A6, can I use it to fulfill my
Enrichment Requirement ?
-
Yes, provided that module is not being used to fulfill
your Elective requirement (i.e., no double counting).
-
When can a module be double counted towards two graduation requirement?
-
A non-CS module can be double counted when
-
it is required in your Programme Essential, but with
no specific module codes (for example, the "One biology module" requirement),
and
-
you wish to use it to fulfill the CFM requirement.
In reality, if you are in CS stream, you have already
satisfied the CFM requirement after taking Biology/Physics/Level-2000 Mathematics
module requirement. (In fact, you will have considered taken 3 CFM instead
of two). If you are in IT/IS stream, then you have already satisfied 1
CFM requirement after taking Biology module.
Note that this arrangement is only applicable
to 98/99 batch.
-
Can CS1302/3/4 be counted as a CFM?
-
It depends.
-
If you are in CS or IT programme, you can.
-
If you are in IS programme, you cannot.
-
For CS stream, what exactly is a "level 2000 Mathematics module"? Can ST2334
be considered such a module?
-
A "level 2000 mathematics module" is level-2000 module
from either Mathematics Department or the Department of Applied Probability
and Statistics. So, ST2334 can be considered such a module.
-
The replacement of CS3213 by CS3214 will definitely delay my graduation.
What should I do?
-
Discuss your problem with A/Prof. Teh Hung Chuan
as soon as possible; we will try our best to make sure you won't be disadvantaged.
-
If a student is in the CS or IS stream and have already completed their
FYP or UROP. He then switches to the IT stream for whatever reason. Can
his/her FYP or UROP be considered to be the IAP needed for graduation in
the IT stream ?
-
No, unless you didn't meet the continuation requirement
for continuing in the CS or IS stream.
-
Can a level 3000 module be use as one of the three level-2 enrichment module
that we have to fufil ?
-
Yes. The three level 2 enrichment modules can be
met using modules at either level-2, level-3, or level-4.
-
In CS stream, is there a restriction on the maximum number of modules we
can take from A1-A8 to fulfill the requirement of taking 3 enrichments
with at level 2 and above?
-
How do we drop the technopreneur minor?
-
Not applicable to your batch.
-
Does having a pass in "A" level econs mean that you fulfill any requirement
for EC1310? Does it mean that you can take other modules whose prereq is
EC1310, or any programmes which needs EC1310, but you dun get the MC's
for 1310, and it is not considered as a module passed?
-
No. Having a pass in "A" level econs means that you
are not required to take EC1310 in SoC. You are then free to choose SoC
modules the pre-requisite of which requires EC1310. However, this does
not apply to modules of other faculties. You still have to follow the pre-requisite
requirements as stipulated by the modules offered by other faculties.
-
For the new technopreneurship minor, if someone's taking it, and it requires
CS1304, then can CS1304 be double counted both as CFM and tech essential?
-
Not applicable to your batch.
-
The total CFM MCs we have got so far does not telly with the NUS side and
the ScC side. Is that OK?
-
We don't know when the Registrar will update the
letter they sent you concerning the CFM. Since your graduation requirement
is checked and approved by the SoC, you should not worry about such anomaly.
-
Since CS3214/CS3214S is of 8 MC's. Is there any compensation in Modular
credit for taking such a course?
-
The compensation of taking CS3214/CS3214S is well-known
for the IS/IT programme. If you are in CS stream, if you opt to take either
CS3214/CS3214S, then you can count this as 2 modules from elective area
A1. You can then use this to meet either your elective requirement or your
enrichment requirement, but not both (of course, no double counting.)
-
If we want to take an SoC module as a CFM (for example, CS1302/3/4 can
be considered as a CFM for CS students), can we choose the pass/fail option
for the module?
-
When can a module be double-counted for minor and something else (programme
essential, CFM, level-2 enrichment, CFM + level-2 enrichment, etc)? Is
there a limit to how many modules can be double-counted for minor and what's
that limit?
-
To satisfy a minor programme, you must take certain
number of modules related to the minor programme. Some of these modules
may also be used to satisfy some requirements in your major programme.
Thus, there is an issue as to which modules can be used for double-counting
in two programmes.
-
For other minor programme, you can double-count up
to 50% of the modules in the minor programme.
-
Technopreneurship minor programme is not available
to your batch.
-
In what circumstances do the module grabbing process (whether it was grabbed
thru CFM quota, CFM, normal add/drop, green form, blue form, etc) matter
for the usage of the module (essential, elective, enrichment, CFM, minor,
various double-counting, etc)?
-
which streams can take cs1105 as a CFM?
-
None. However, you can always take it to fulfill
the total MC's requirement.
-
Can the science module mc2305 (Microbes, Environment and Man) be considered
as a bio module?
-
What is the relationship between QET, ET1000, and CS2301?
-
In general, QET is a university requirement and if
a students fail QET, they have to read 2 ET1XXX modules. However, for SoC
students they read one ET1000 module and substitute the second one with
CS2301. Here is the detail implementation:
-
For poly-graduates admitted in Academic Year 1999/2000:
-
You are exempted from CS2301.
-
If you did not pass your QET, then you must take
ET1000.
-
If you passed QET, or you needed not take QET, then
you don't need to read ET1000.
-
If you are not a poly graduates, then
-
You must take CS2301.
-
If you did not pass your QET, then you must take
ET1000.
-
If you passed QET, or you needed not take QET, then
you don't need to read ET1000.
-
How many extra semesters are given to a student who has completed all the
graduation requirements for a major, but is registered for a minor and
has not completed the requirements for the minor, to complete the minor?
-
A student should complete a minor within the same
time as he/she completes his major. No extra semester is given. However,
a student has up to 6 years to complete a 4-year programme. Also, a student
is allowed to study for one more semester after he/she has completed all
requirements for graduation.
-
By fulfilling the requirements for CS and IS, can a student graduate with
both majors in the degree?
-
No. Because there are sufficient overlap between
these two programmes, a student cannot claim both majors in the degree.
Furthermore, double degree when approved is only for cross-faculty degree
only.
-
when is the last time one can move to another stream?
-
The latest is at the end of the 5th semester. More
precisely, one should do so 3 weeks before week zero of the 6th semester.
-
Is there a limit on the number of CFM modules one can take?
-
How does the change in the School curriculum affect the UROP programme?
-
How many level 5 and level 6 modules can one take? Can these be used to
meet programme requirement?
-
Students can take at most 2 level-5/6 modules for
meeting the total MC requirements. These courses cannot be used to meet
the other specific programme elective/enrichment requirement (such as 3
level-3 modules requirement).
-
Students in the four-year programme are allowed to
pre-take one level-5/6 modules to be used to meet their Master programme
requirement. (This may be useful for candidates on the AMP programs or
planning to do a master degree).
-
Note that there is a class-size quota on level-5/6
module and undergraduates will be given a lower priority for enrolling
in the modules.
-
Lastly, note that a level-2 module requirement in
a programme can be met by taking a module at level-2/3/4; a level-3 module
requirement in a programme can be met by taking a module at level-3/4;
a level-4 module requirement can be met by taking a module at level-4 only.
In brief, no level-5/6 modules can be used to satisfy these requirements.
