Some Non-Serious Stuff About Me

Me

I'm Damith. I'm a Sri Lankan.

I'm married to Pradee. She works as a software engineer at Accenture (Singapore).

Our son Riveen Sathmina was born on Nov 8th 2007.

My Name

'Damith' is pronounced as in 'the myth' (not exactly, but close enough!). My western friends sometimes (genuinely, I hope) mispronounce it as 'Dammit', and my Chinese friends sometimes mispronounce it as 'Dha Mee'.

My surname is 'Rajapakse', which means 'Loyal to the king' in my mother tongue (Sinhalese). Sri Lanka is no longer ruled by kings. But we do have a president, and interestingly, his surname is "Rajapakse" too! No, we are not related.

Where I'm From

I hail from the beautiful city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. I spent most of my youth in Colombo (capital of Sri Lanka). I've been staying in Singapore since 2002, first, studying for my PhD at NUS, and now, working there as a lecturer.
