Short biography

Senior Scientist at the French National Research Center (CNRS), Daniel RACOCEANU is the Co-Director (France) of Image & Pervasive Access Lab (IPAL), the International Joint Research Unit – (UMI CNRS 2955) created in Singapore between the CNRS, the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) of the Singaporean Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France (UJF).

Mechatronics Engineer of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara (UPT), Romania in 1992, Master of Science in Automatics and Industrial Informatics at the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), France in 1993, PhD in 1997 and Habil. Dr. in 2006 in Control and Computer Sciences at the University of Besançon, France, Daniel Racoceanu was Project Manager at General Electric Energy Products - Europe, Belfort, France before joining, in 1999 a chair of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Besançon, France, where he coursed until 2005 in the field of artificial intelligence, computer vision, industrial informatics, automation, control science and production systems.

From 1999 to 2005, Daniel Racoceanu was also with FEMTO-ST/AS2M - UMR CNRS 6174, Besançon, France, working in Diagnosis / Prognosis area using Artificial Intelligent Techniques (Dynamic Neural Networks; Fuzzy Logic, Neuro-Fuzzy Systems) for e-services (e-maintenance) purposes. During this period, he participated to the FP5 European Integrated Project of ITEA program (Information Technology for European Advancement) PROTEUS and NEMOSYS (Naval E-Maintenance Oriented SYStem) with DCNS – Direction des Constructions Navales Services, France.

Daniel Racoceanu’s actual researches in IPAL focus on Intelligent Diagnosis/Prognosis Assistance using Medical Image and Knowledge-Based Reasoning Systems, Content and Context Based Medical Image Retrieval and Medical Multimedia Fusion. He is the PI of ONCO-MEDIA (Ontology and COntext related MEdical image Distributed Intelligent Access) project (ICT –ASIA programme 2006-2010), co-PI of MMedWeb (Multimedia Medical Conceptual Web for Intelligent Information Access) project (2007-2010), a SERC-A*STAR project between NUS, National University Hospital, National Healthcare Group and Singapore General Hospital Singapore, CNRS and I2R/A*STAR and collaborator to the A*STAR CCO project (2009-2012) entitled An Intelligent Vision System for Quantitative Microscopy in Neural Stem Cells Progenitor Growth and Differentiation, in collaboration with I2R/A*STAR-SERC, the Bioinformatics Institute and the Institute of Medical Biology/A*STAR – BMRC.
