ER2004 CALL FOR TUTORIALS

INTRODUCTION

High-quality tutorials are a long-standing tradition in ER conferences. They complement the depth-oriented technical sessions by providing participants with broad overviews of emerging fields or clear syntheses of results in existing fields.

The ER 2004 Organizing Committee invites proposals for tutorials to be held as part of the conference program or in conjunction with the conference. Proposals may be submitted for 90-minute tutorials, to be held within the main conference stream, or for half day (3 hour) or full day (6 hour) tutorials, to be held as pre-conference tutorials. Please note that tutorials are not be intended to advocate a single avenue of research, nor should they promote a product.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Proposals must be submitted electronically, before the submission deadline of May 10, 2004, to both Tutorial Chairs:

Jianzhong Li, Harbin Institute of Technology, China
lijzh@hope.hit.edu.cn

Stefano Spaccapietra, EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland
Stefano.Spaccapietra@epfl.ch

The recommended format is a .pdf or .doc file.

Tutorial proposals should contain the following information:
- Tutorial Title
- Instructor: full name and contact address, email, phone
- Abstract: A brief description of the content and goals of the tutorial, suitable for publication on the conference website.
- Outline: Include rough time allocations.
- Scope: Is this a survey of several related topics, or an in-depth study of one topic?
- Intended Audience
- Motivation
- Objectives: What will the participants learn?
- Prior History: If the instructor has given a similar tutorial previously, explain when and where, and estimate attendance.
- Biographical Sketch
- Major References: Demonstrating evidence about the proposer's presentation ability
- Supplementary Material: Anything that might help the reviewers in the evaluation of the proposal. In particular, if the tutorial has already been given elsewhere, please include a copy of the presentation slides.

REVIEW PROCESS

Tutorial proposals will be evaluated on the basis of their estimated benefit for prospective participants and on their fit within the tutorials program as a whole. Factors to be considered include: relevance, timeliness, importance, and audience appeal; suitability for presentation in the proposed time frame; and past experience and qualifications of the instructors. Selection is also based on the overall distribution of topics, expected attendance, and specialties of the intended audiences. It may happen that not all tutorials of technical merit can be accommodated within the tutorials program.
