    • Research:

    My main research interest is on document image analysis (DIA). In the past few decades, documents increasingly originated from computers in electronic forms. However the amount of paper documentation is believed to be increasing instead of decreasing, as documents are often printed for reading, dissemination and markup etc. The ultimate goal of DIA is to give the computer the same capability as human being to understand paper documents. To achieve this, two types of information should be recognized and integrated: text and graphics. Although solutions to the traditional textual processing problems (OCR) are rather mature nowadays, there is still a lot to do to handle the graphical information in the document images and to integrate the two types of information together. I believe that full understanding of a document image cannot be achieved with any of these information being ignored.

    Since my third year of undergraduate study, I have been working with A/P Tan Chew Lim in various areas of DIA. For more details about my research works, find out here.

    I am a member of the Center for Heuristic Information Mining and Extraction (CHIME) in SOC, NUS.
    I am also a member of the Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence Association (PREMIA) in Singapore.
