    Building Vietnamese WordNet annotated corpus

    Building Vietnamese WordNet-annotated corpus for advanced tasks in NLP.

    With available WordNet annotated corpus in English side, I want to use aligments provided by GIZA toolkit to project the WordNet tags into Vietnamese side. Once we achieve this goal, the new generated corpus is expected to contain many useful semantic information such that the SMT system could reach better performance. The problem is that, alignments vary in many forms: 1-1, 1-n, m-1, and m-n. Thus I proposed some heuristics in combining ovelapped alignments in order to obtain the best projection result, which is evaluated on manual test set.

    Vietnamese - Korean Statistical Machine Translation

    Implementing Modality chunking for Vietnamese-Korean Statistical Machine Translation system.

    I joined a commercial project about Statistical Machine Translation for Vietnamese-Korean pair language. My works here are maintaining toolkit for processing output into MOSES system and developing new approach based on modality concept(for example a verb can imply suggestion, politeness, or position of speaker to listener). My solution is regex-based, surprisingly works well than I expected, but still could not catch up performance of Neural Machine Translation team.

    Deciphering the Entertaining Impact of Pokemon

    Studying Game Refinement theory mathematical foundation and apply it to analyse game’s entertaining aspect.

    I learned about Game Refinement Theory, an exciting theory which observes any game in game master’s position. It proposes two main approachs to access to the entertaining aspect of a game. I applied the score-based approach to Pokemon game setting to explain its attractiveness in this manner.

Building Semantic Mapping from LLOCE to WordNet

Abstract

LLOCE dictionary is built by classifying vocabulary in range from general to detail: Topic, Subjects, Groups. Groups of LLOCE is a labeling and word sense disambiguation system, with an average depth corresponding to WordNet ontology. We build a mapping of Groups of LLOCE to WordNet with 3 main methods: creating frequency table, find pairs satisfied predefined branches, and similarity measurement for evaluating. The best result obtained shows that the rate of coverage of the label is 35%. The experiment is presented and explained, then we discuss the future works to provide a more comprehensive picture.

Abstract

In the developing trend of machine translation methods, statistical machine translation (semantic-based) is considered as the most promising method. However, this method requires a large bilingual semantic-tagged corpus. The construction of such corpus which uses manual methods will take a lot of time and effort. Therefore, the study of building the corpus automatically is interested in many countries. For Vietnamese language, this problem has not been resolved yet. In this paper, we present a survey to evaluate the effectiveness of semantic labels LLOCE (Longman Lexicon Of Contemporary English Dictionary) in automatic semantic tagging task for bilingual English-Vietnamese.

Deciphering the Entertaining Impact of Pokemon

Abstract

This paper investigates the setting in the gameplay of Pokemon, a very popular turn-based Role Playing Game (RPG) which attracts numerous players from all ages for over twenty years. For this purpose, game refinement theory, a unique theory that has been used as a reliable tool for measuring the attractiveness and sophistication of the games considered, is used as an essential tool for evaluating the enjoyment of Pokemon game. We propose a new model of game refinement theory called experience-based model and apply it to Pokemon Red, Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Soul Silver version. By analyzing many data, we conclude that the result supports the previous assumption which said that the balanced window of game refinement value is around 0.07-0.08.

This is my natural habitat, the place which could help putting concentration mode on me right away. Most of the time (including weekends), you can easily find me here. I want to fill in this section with a picture of my workplace, yet I'm not sure whether I am allowed to do so. Thus, I chose Ampharos, one of my favourite Pokemon, as background.
