My Approach to Life - Guiding Principles

Be happy, no matter what!

When I came to Singapore on 100% scholarship in 1995, I realised I had everything I could have asked for. Anything more would simply add on to the list, but wouldn't necessarily make me any more happy than I already was. Now there are things to do, but they are no preconditions to happiness. Life, by its very nature, is hard and filled with difficulties. I've made it my principle to be happy at all times - the good and bad times both are interchangeable, so nothing is to be taken to heart!

Everything happens for one's own good - we get what we deserve!

Rest assured that everything good is happening. We might not realise the reasons why things happen when they do, but they are for the ultimate good.

Have 0 expectations from everyone else, 100% from yourself

I realised that the main reason one gets hurt is building up expectations from people - we feel we've done so much for so on so, why did the person let me down? Just look around carefully, and you'll find enough reason to cheer. Your good deed won't go waste. You'll always get your fair share of love and care, but it may be from a different quarter than what you've expected. This principle has served me well. I tried to minimise expectations from everyone around me, and maximise from myself and God. With expectations low, everything one gets is a bonus!

Make a difference during your stay on earth - to strive to have my utmost potential realised

I realise that my birth is not without purpose - I have not been born to simply eat, sleep and die one day. I have to do something meaningful and make a lot of difference during my lifetime.

Every man is potentially divine - I can do the impossible, if I really seek to

I believe I can achieve whatever I set out to achieve. I just should want it enough. Once that is there, I'll do all that it takes to reach there!
