Frequently Asked Questions
Please send your queries to us at noi@comp.nus.edu.sgHere are some queries received from some schools.
Received in January 1998:
- Q:
- Must contestants be Singapore Citizens?
- A:
- NOI imposes no restriction on the citizenship of the
contestants. However, do note that IOI contestants must
be Singapore citizens or permanent residents.
- Q:
- Can I send the contestant list by e-mail?
- A:
- Yes. You may send the list by e-mail or fax. Our fax number is
779-4580 and our e-mail address is given above.
- Q:
- Will a summary of the performance of our pupils be given?
- A:
- The contestants will know their own results during the
evaluation. Each contestant will also receive a diskette
containing his/her programs as well as the test data.
- Q:
- Will there be further training provided by your School for the pupils who come tops in this competition (NOI)?
- A:
- Yes, as mentioned in our web site, the top winners of NOI,
who are eligible for IOI (i.e. Singapore citizens or
permanent residents) will go through training on more
advanced topics before they leave for IOI. The schedule of
the training will be made known later.
The students, however, have to check if the IOI period clashes with their school examination. This is especially so for JC 2 and Secondary 4 students, as they may want to concentrate on preparing for their examinations.
Once a student is selected for the training, the student's committment is mandatory.
- Q:
- Can we send JC2 students for NOI even though they will not be available for selection for the IOI training team?
- A:
- Yes, they may participate in the NOI.
- Q:
- My college is organising a seminar for all staff on the day of the NOI. Could the students participate without the teacher's presence?
- A:
- Yes, they may participate without the teacher's presence.
