PIPA stands for Pervasive Information Processing Architecture.

The objective of the PIPA project is to build content based multimedia database system for supporting advanced applications. We focus on the following:
1) Efficient indexing support for interactive media.
2) Storage structure for smart media objects.
3) New interface paradigm.
4) Effective distance/similarity metrics on multimedia data such as images, videos, music, motion and time series, etc., with the aim of reducing the semantic gaps of matching multimedia objects.
5) Efficient query procesing stategies on multimedia data.

PIPA initiated in 2004, is an extension of VIPER (VIsual Property-based search Engine for image Retrieval) which was initiated in 1995 with a focus on content based image retrieval system. PIPA is led by OOI Beng Chin, TAN Kian-Lee and Anthony TUNG. It is a platform for experimenting on "new" interfaces and, storage and manipulation of interactive media, video, audio and image data.
