My Personal Vision

"To invent something new and useful for humanity. To pass the existing knowledge to younger generations. To God be the Glory."

It has been my interest to play around with new things. I am also the type of person who do not like to be trapped in the routines of daily activities like other people normally do. I am now in my last year (hopefully) of PhD candidature and trying my best to finish this PhD programme. I will make the most of my candidature to explore new things, invent new and useful things... And whatever the results that I (have/will) found... To God be the Glory. I am also interested in teaching (especially teaching algorithm/programming). Thus, from these two main interests, it is very likely I will pursue academic path (e.g. faculty member of university) in the future.

My Religious Belief

I believe in God, the creator of the universe.
I believe His son, Jesus has died for my sin on the cross.
I believe the Holy Spirit is guiding me and all Christians until the second coming of Christ.

Me and research/teaching:
... I am an instructor (i.e. one step before lecturer) at School of Computing (SoC), National University of Singapore (NUS).
... I am also a 5th (final?) year PhD candidate at SoC, NUS, as part-time student.
... I already spent about 8.5 years in NUS, almost all my friends from my batch have graduated 4 or 5 years ago >.<.
... I am majoring in Computer Science (CS) stream, pure CS, mainly in algorithms.
... I currently have 9 international publications, 7 of it related to my PhD thesis (note: so far, all are teamwork!).

Me and Christianity/ministry:
... I was converted in year 2000, thanks to God and one of my best friend.
... I was baptized on 25 Nov 2001 at Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church (BBPC), and so blessed by Him...
... currently active in the management part of the Riau islands ministry (near Batam, Indonesia)...
... and also take some part in my church (BBPC) mission division.

Me and relationship:
... I am currently engaged to Grace Suryani (her page in glorianet).
... if you are interested to learn more regarding Christian dating and some other stuffs, click here.

Some of my other facts, I:
... spend many hours in front of computer daily...
... 'cannot live' without these two technology: computer and hand-phone...
... has one real brother, two 'official' younger 'sister's, and few other older (not official) 'sister's...
... usually a busy person... but now trying to enjoy my life regardless of my busy-ness...
... a logical and systematic person... I try to solve my problems logically, but now I try to have more faith that God will help...
... sometimes I cannot empathize but try to solve everything logically... now learning to listen more...
... insensitive to the need of others unless they told me explicitly what their needs are...
... frequently used many technical terms in daily conversations... Trying to use more 'down to earth' languages...
... trying to listen more and if possible: to give meaningful advises and not the discouraging ones...
... trying to be a gentleman even though unlikely that I will be a romantic person...
... usually want to be the best (even though I am not very good)...
... likes algorithms and problem solving (but I have retired from competitive programming now)...
... likes chatting, but I need to reduce this now...
... likes reading: scientific books/papers, algorithms book, Christian books, novels, comics, articles, etc
... likes simple and interesting maths, but not calculus.
... likes billiard (we have one small pool table in our house, but rarely play it anymore =)).
... likes soccer (watch EPL weekly)
... likes RPG (Role Playing Game) where you can be the hero :D, but I do not have time to play now...
... lives in Singapore, but spent his childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia...
... do not like to hangs around the mall doing window shopping...
... but I admit I have to sacrifice in the above matter if traveling in group or with my girlfriend since girls usually like window shopping...
... goes to bed around 12-1am and wakes up around 8-9am (I should modify my lifestyle to a better one --!)
... and then go to school, doing research... official office hours should be 9am-6pm, but mine varies day by day, sorry NUS...
... cannot cook and formerly anti vegetable, but I can eat some vegetable now...
