I Miss the Days We Didn't Have Cell Phones

I miss the days we didn't have cell phones
that when we were together we were truly together
and when we talked you were mine alone,
and I was only yours.

I miss the days we didn't have cell phones
when we were more polite,
and paid more attention to each other.

I miss the days we didn't have cell phones
when no one could find us when we didn't want to be found,
when our mind was only wherever we were,
and we didn't feel the need to be omnipresent.

I miss the days we didn't have cell phones
when we were doing fine without them,
when we spent less money
and would never mourn should we lose them.

I miss the days we didn't have cell phones;
I miss the days we didn't need them.
They changed us a lot more than we might realize,
and in such subtle ways, too.
