Change

It would be selfishness, I think,
that asks for unchanging phenomena,
for time to stop while happiness lasts.

For while here I bask in everlasting joy
it leaves someone somewhere else
stuck in unending suffering.

It is change, after all, that makes it possible
for one to forgive and forget,
for time to heal everything.

And I will welcome change,
much as I've dreaded it before,
'cause only it may fade the pain away.

Nothing quite as devastating
as a season frozen in time,
the stillness of dead wind, leaves in mid-fall;

sad as the statue of a bird
posed in an elegant take-off,
forever longing to fly.

in front of Parkview Square. =)
