Up

a head full of worries,
too heavy to lift up
eyes that see little
beyond the fog ahead.

day by day i drifted past,
fleeting like vague spirit,
un-heeding and un-adhering,
not learning, not giving.

but one morning i looked up
just by a moment's whim,
and saw the sky i long admired,
the sky that still was there.

light shining through leaves
as i used to see
light making a beautiful sight
that still brings smiles to me

how have i forgotten?
these things that lift me up
how have i forgotten
to look, to see, to feel?

aren't they always beautiful
whatever is happening in my world?
isn't the sky always there
however thick the fog i make?

only i, chose to be blind
only i, forgetting to see
the world wider than the palm of my hand
life larger than the self i carry.
