Each year, many students depart Singapore for Imperial College
to pursue coveted degrees, following the footsteps of predecessors
unknown to them. Studying abroad can be a daunting and
challenging experience. The uncertainty of the work environment
that one might graduate into makes this worse. Undoubtedly,
professional advice at the onset of varsity education can help
ease such woes as students will be able to tweak their academic
developments towards career aspirations. In line with this thinking,
ICAAS is launching a new mentorship program beginning
in 2006 to pair first year students with alumni members.
Upon receiving sign-up applications from both alumni and students,
the ICAAS Youth Wing shall endeavour to pair up the two groups based
on preferences. The particulars of the mentor shall be provided to the
mentees and vice-versa. Subsequently, there will be a formal meet-up
session held concurrently with ICNite which provides an excellent
opportunity for interaction. The meet-up session also serves as a
networking session where the mentees get to meet other mentors.
Subsequent meet-ups or interactions shall be at the discretion of
the mentor and mentee but both parties are encouraged to keep in
touch via online means. ICAAS is also exploring establishing an online
forum for all mentors and mentees as a platform for wider interaction.
Any alumni member who would like to extend the Imperial spirit and show
the way for students are highly encouraged to participate.
Any first year students (the scheme might be extended to other
students in later phases) are highly encouraged to participate.
