September

Oh September

The cooling rain you bring
Douse the earth's passionate flame.
A dull curtain drapes the horizon
The lonely sun dies in a bath of crimson.

In my mind I see mountains that blush
And change to a multihue coat of rust;
The glorious bloom which life once did flirt
Bows and fade into the dirt.

Farewell my fair swallow
Higher and further to where dreams flow -
"Be happy, be free" bids my silent song
Oh September a piece of my heart you have torn.
