(5) Clearing Paper Jammed

Some causes of paper jammed :-

> Paper Tray - wrong paper size selection. Physically move the latch to the correct position for A4 size (side and bottom latches)

> Printer rear door is not properly closed. Paper stuck at rear door. Open the rear door, clear the paper and close back the rear door fully.

> Duplex assembly at the rear - The cover of the rear assembly is not properly shut due to broken cover latch. Tape it down to make it fully shut.

> Check duplex tray (in between paper tray 1 and paper tray 2).

> Paper not properly fanned causing papers to stick to each other.

> Paper jammed at paper tray - Paper feed only half-way. Caused by wear and tear of the paper feed rollers.
Locate which tray is causing the paper jams. Take out the rubber rollers of that tray. Use pen knife to make deep cuts as many as possible to the rubber.  Fix it back. If problem still persists, call Lexmark to change "maintenance kit" which include changing to new rollers. (costs of maintenance kit can costs up to $700)

(6) Duplex feature is not working

> Check the printer menu (on screen). Under Finishing > Duplex > ON/OFF.

> Duplex option in the Menu is missing. Turn Off the Printer and Turn On again. The Duplex option will re-appear.

> Rubber padding inside duplex centre assembly is missing or worn off. The motor is supposed to push the rubber up, which in turn supposed to push a rod up. The rod is supposed to push a lever for changing the direction of paper path. If the rubber padding is missing or worn off, the whole mechanism doesn't work.

During Power-up :-

> To enable/disable Menu - press “select3” and “return4” , goto thru the selection “enable/disable menu” and exit.

OR goto Utilities > print DEMO.

- "maintenance count" is not the same as "page count" in the printer menu printout.

- "page count" refers to the number of pages printed out since the printer leave the manufacturing company - since the begining of the printer's life.

- "maintenace count" shows the number of pages printed since the last "maintenance count" reset. Whenever the "maintenance kit" is replaced, the maintenance count will be resetted.

> To manage printer controls = connect to sf0 (using ssh) . Type in the command = ssh lpdhost.

> If printer does not get paper from Tray 2 when Tray 1 is finished :- CHECK

(11) Default network printer for all users

This method is to override the default user profile with a custom one.

Back up your default user folder from documents and settings to somewhere else first before doing the following:

1. Log on to the computer as the administrator, and then create a local user account or use existing local account if you have in your computer e.g. soc a/c.

2. Log off as the administrator, and then log on to the computer through the local user account that you just created. (soc a/c)

3. After log on, set your lab printer to default.

4. Log off as the local user (soc a/c), and then log back on as the administrator.

5. Because several of the files in the profile are hidden and must be copied to the new custom default user profile, turn on the Show hidden files and folders option. To do so, follow these steps:

a. Double-click My Computer, click Tools, and then click Folder Options.

b. On the View tab, under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

6. Replace the current default user profile with the customized default user profile. To do so, follow these steps:
a. In Control Panel, double-click System.

b. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

c. Under User Profiles, click Settings.

d. In the User Profiles dialog box, click the user profile that you just created, and then click Copy To.

e. In the Copy To dialog box, under Copy profile to, click Browse, click the C:\Documents and Settings\Default User folder, and then click OK.

f. Under Permitted to use, click Change, click Everyone, and then click OK. If Everyone is not available, click Advanced, click Find Now, click Everyone, and then click OK.

Windows XP will now assign the custom default user profile (default printer setting) to any new user who logs on to the computer and use the pre-assigned lab printer.

Note: You can use this custom profile on other Windows XP-based computers by copying the profile you saved in C:\Documents and Settings\Default User to the same folder on a different computer.
