How Tay Wei Kiat grew Originally US from $500 startup to thriving mobile app business

Mr Tay Wei Kiat, co-founder of local start-up Originally US, and Torin Nguyen, an alumnus of NUS Computing, started the business in 2014 with just $500 in capital. Now, two years later, the mobile application development business is "on track" to break seven digits in annual revenue. It has even expanded to include an office in Vietnam.

Once shunned by top students, computing degrees are now finding favour, with applicants being attracted by better job prospects and working in technology firms. Higher demand for courses offered by the National University of Singapore's School of Computing pushed up the grades of students it accepted last year, putting it on a par with other competitive courses like law, medicine and business.
