9 October 2019 – First-year Computer Science student Ho Jie Feng and his teammate Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) student V S Ragul Balaji won first place at the 10th Singapore Cyber Conquest competition held on 1 October this year. The pair won an all-expense paid trip to cybersecurity conference Black Hat USA in August 2020.

They can make you feel claustrophobic, you’ll often hear loud thumping or tapping noises, and you might have to hold your breath a couple of times. But for most people, the hardest thing about getting an MRI, or magnetic resonance imagining, scan is being forced to stay completely still — sometimes for up to 90 minutes at a time.

10th Singapore Cyber Conquest Champions Announced

First-year Computer Science student Ho Jie Feng and his teammate placed first at the 10th Singapore Cyber Conquest competition organised by the Cyber Security Agency Singapore. NUS Computing students Ngo Wei Lin and Daniel Wee came in second in the competition as well. A total of 37 teams from both Singapore and ASEAN Member States, competed in a simulated real-world cyber range designed to test cybersecurity skills and knowledge.

1 October 2019 – A team of final-year NUS Computing students emerged as champions in the recent Build On, Singapore 2019 hackathon on 24 September. Business Analytics students Victoria Teo and Vincent Leow, Information Systems students Teo Kai Cheng and Rebecca Tan, and Computer Engineering student Xie Yu Heng, won the champions prize in the university category of the competition.

30 September 2019 – Six NUS Computing undergraduate and Masters students were named award winners at the recent NUS Bug Bounty Challenge held from 14 to 26 August this year. The students made up two-thirds of the total number of winners – nine NUS students were awarded cash prizes for their discoveries.

Swiss university students to enrol in NUS Computing Master’s programme under new partnership

26 September 2019 – NUS Computing and the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) announced a joint partnership on 19 September to enrol top students from Switzerland’s SIT into the NUS Computing’s Master of Computing programme. Under the partnership, up to 15 students from SIT will be selected to enrol into a 12-month NUS Master of Computing programme.

NUS Computing students Xavier Xie, Rebecca Tan, Victoria Teo, Vincent Leow and Teo Kai Cheng won first place in the university category of Build On, Singapore 2019 Hackathon. The hackathon, jointly organised by Amazon Web Services, NUS and the Government Technology Agency, drew 51 entries from students across various institutions in Singapore.

NUS Computing Assistant Professors Dr Arnab Bhattacharyya, Dr Kuldeep Meel, and Dr Angela Yao received the NRF Fellowship for Artificial Intelligence. Dr Angela Yao will be using the grant to conduct research in artificial visual intelligence, while Dr Bhattacharyya will be developing efficient algorithms for causal inference. Dr Kuldeep Meel aims to develop a mathematical framework that addresses real-world problems in AI.
