21 December 2016 - Associate Professor Tan Chuan Hoo from the Department of Information Systems has received the 2016 Best Reviewer Award from the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS). He also received an honorable mention from the journal in 2015 in recognition of his contribution as a member of its Editorial Review Board.
Currently in his second term of service, Prof. Tan has been reviewing articles for JAIS since February 2012. These articles examine areas such as digital privacy; website and mobile application design; information technology (IT) failure; online social network services; as well as IT adoption and usage. Some of his review criteria include the paper’s theoretical contribution, the novelty of the idea put forward, its methodological rigor (for empirical papers), and the suitability of the paper for the journal. For topics he is unfamiliar with, Prof. Tan said that he spends time building the requisite knowledge base before reviewing the papers.
Prof. Tan also received the Outstanding Reviewer Award from Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (ECRA) and has been invited to join its editorial board as an Associate Editor. The articles that he reviews in this journal address topics such as impulse buying on the mobile platform; cultural influences on users’ adoption of mobile technology; and product involvement. Prof. Tan said that the biggest challenge he faces in reviewing articles for ECRA is that the field of electronic commerce develops very quickly; thus, there is a need to keep abreast of these developments in order to be able to provide constructive comments and suggestions in his reviews.
