24 July 2018 – Four new faculty members have joined the Department of Computer Science in NUS Computing. They are:


Professor Chen Tsuhan
Professor Chen Tsuhan was appointed Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Deputy President (Research and Technology) on 1 June 2018. He is a renowned expert in pattern recognition, computer vision, and machine learning. He is also the Chief Scientist of AI Singapore, a national programme in artificial intelligence hosted at NUS.

Prior to joining NUS, Prof Chen was a David E. Burr Professor of Engineering at Cornell University since 2009. He served as the Director of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, from 2009 to 2013, where he promoted the school to top ranking positions, and launched several initiatives to encourage innovation and to promote research and teaching excellence. He received his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.

His research areas including computer vision and pattern recognition; multimedia coding and retrieval; as well as biometric authentication. He is a member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society, a Fellow of IEEE, and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Singapore.

Dr Djordje Jevdjic
Dr Jevdjic officially joined NUS Computing as an Assistant Professor on 11 June 2018. He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from the School of Computer and Communication Sciences, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2015. He received his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Belgrade, in 2010 and 2007.

Prior to joining NUS, Dr Jevdjic was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Washington and a visiting researcher at Microsoft Research in Redmond. Dr Jevdjic’s research areas are in approximate computing, systems for machine learning, DNA data storage, specialised storage systems for multimedia, memory systems for servers, 3D integrated circuits, near-memory processing, virtual memory support for big data, and server systems modelling and evaluation.

Mr Akshay Narayan
Mr Akshay Narayan was appointed as a Lecturer with the Department of Computer Science on 1 July 2018. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in the School of Computing. His research interests are in reinforcement learning and transfer learning.

Prior to his current appointment, he was a Teaching Assistant in the CS department, and has tutored software engineering, operating systems and AI planning and decision making. He completed his Master of Technology degree from IIIT-Bangalore. Before that, he spent three years as a member of Technical Staff in NetApp India Private Limited.


20180724 Akshay Narayan

Dr Han Jun
Dr Han Jun joined NUS Computing as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science on 16 July 2018. He has obtained his PhD, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA in 2018, 2007 and 2006, respectively.

His research areas include sensing systems and security of Internet-of-Things and Cyber-Physical Systems.
