1.      Give the decimal and octal equivalents of the binary number 100110.

 

2.      In Tutorial 2 Question 1, we used an encoding system that utilises 5 bit codes to represent the message $INTRO*. What is the decimal equivalence of the largest value that can be represented using this system and what is the total number of symbols that can be represented?

 

  1. What is a computer virus? List 3-5 most famous (infamous) viruses. State ways in which viruses spread and manifest, and how can you prevent your system from being affected.
