From: Leong Hon Wai, TDP Coordinator for SoC, NUS To: Instructors of CS1102, CS2103, CS3103, CS3230, CS3251, CS3261 (Jan 2000) Re: TDCS modules for this semester... I am writing to you because you are the instructor of a course with a TDCS equivalent (eg: CS1102 and TDCS1102). TDCS modules are taken by TDP students and TDP students only. The TDCS modules are supposed to cover roughly the same material as the CS module equivalent. However, TDCS modules are supposed to give the TDP students more opportunity for independent learning. This can mean a variety of different things: eg: one more project in lieu of some weightage from the final exam, a slightly different tutorial/homework sets, perhaps a reading assignment. Or any combination of the above -- including having NO final exams. I have applied for blanket approval for TDCS modules to be up to 100% CA (no final exam). However, the exact CA percentages can vary from course to course depending on the agreement between the students and the instructor. (In other words, the instructor has flexibility to structure the course to achieve the aims above.) After you and the students have agreement on the exact composition of your TDCS modules, it should be sent to my office for final approval. The TDP students then sign up for the TDCS module off-line. If a final exam is need (for any percentage), please also let Toh Mui Kiat and Mrs Kwek know. TDCS1102 and TDCS2103 are compulsory for all TDP students. The 3000-level TDCS modules are optional and TDP students should decide if they wish to take the standard CS module or opt for the TDCS equivalent. I appreciate your help on this. TDP students may be contacting you on this -- if not, please try to annouce it in your lectures. TDCS modules are relatively new and only started last semester. YOu may want to refer to Prof Tan Chew Lim and Prof Leow Wee Kheng who have done TDCS modules last semester. Regards, --hon-wai cc: Mariana, Wati TohMK, Mrs Kwek TanCL, LeowWK
