News about USP and Migration

  • July 2001
Most of the information here about the transition of CORE/TDP have since been superseded by finalized information at the USP (Scholars') web-site at http://www.scholars.nus.edu.sg/

  • 19 Jan 2001 (Fri)
For those in the TSP who don't have to take CS2301 (Business and Technical Communications), but have been signed up for it, you can still take it if you like.

But, if you wish to drop it, then do the following ASAP: fill up a blue add/drop form and pass the form to me (leonghw) in S16 05-05 for endorsement.

  • 12 Jan 2001 (Fri) 5:00pm -- 2nd Briefing, Venue: EC (S17, Level 5) -- | presentation |
on the SoC Transitional Scholars Programme.

  • 29 Dec 2000 -- TDCS Modules
I have put up a FAQ on the Transitional Scholars Programme.

All TDCS modules will NOT appear in the Online Registration System. You should now register for the corresponding CS module. The conversion to the corresponding TDCS module will be done for you automatically a little later.

All CORE students opting for USP will have to take TDCS1102 if they have not completed CS1102. The same applies for TDCS2103. Those from the 1999 intake will also need to take UROP this semester or the next. Send me email about this so that I can arrange for it!

  • 19 Dec 2000 -- Handout Available
We have printed out the slides used in the Briefing in the stipulated format (6-to-a-page). You can get them from Wati at the General Office (S16).

  • 18 Dec 2000 -- SoC Info...

There appear to be some confusion by our CORE/TDP students over the transparencies used in the briefing.

Some students has only focussed on the slides with the "Mapping" and ignored the slides with the original programme. For each programme listed, please compare the first two slides with the next two slides. I recommend that you print the slides (six-on-one-page) and then you can compare them "vertically" in one page.

  • 16 Dec 2000 -- Info from Scholars Office

The Scholars Office has released more information and a FAQ to all students informing them of the details (with a little push from someone at SoC Special Programmes).

Some of the issues that we still need to pursue:

  • 14 Dec 2000 -- Briefing on Core / TDP --> USP

CORE and TDP will be merged into new entity called the University Scholar's Programme in July 2001. (This was announced at a Meeting by the CORE Office with all CORE / TDP students in Sep/Oct 2000.

    1. SoC TDP students from the 1998 and 1997 batches are NOT affected by this change (at least wrt curriculum). (They will continue to fulfill the TDP requirements as given in the SoC TDP -- including the Global Programme.)

    2. SoC CORE and TDP students from the 1999 and 2000 batches have the option to join the USP.

  • We (SoC) have done some of our deliberations on this. We will offer 1999 and 2000 CORE / TDP students a "transitional package" for the USP.

  • A briefing was held for all SoC CORE / TDP students on the issue of opting for the new University Scholars Programme. The powerpoint file used can be found here -> | PPT source |
You can also view slides online here. But, be warned that parts of the formating got distorted in translation to html. to get more details.
