Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ 

The following are common questions asked:

Q: Do I need to be in the University to register online?
A: No, you can access SoC's online registration website from anywhere. 
As long as you have Internet Access, you can register online. 
(Meaning you can also register if you have Internet Access outside of Singapore)
 
Q: What do I need to register my modules / tutorial online?
A: You would need to know your Matriculation Number and your Matriculation Card PIN.
 
Q: What if I cannot remember my PIN?
A: There are several places where you can retrieve your PIN.
1) General Computing Laboratory at S16, Level 9. (Available only during the registration period)
2) School of Computing Helpdesk at S15, Level 1.
3) Computer Centre Helpdesk.

You would need to personally go to the above places and bring your Matriculation Card along to verify who you are.
 
Q: Where can I find the modules that are being offered?
A: The course list is available at http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~online/course_list/
 
Q: Where can I find the lecture / tutorial / exam timetable for modules offered?
A: You can visit http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~tutorial
 
Q: How can I add or drop modules after the dates of the online registration?
A: Go to the SoC Undergraduate General Office located at Level 5, S16. 
Request for the "Blue Form" to do your Adding and Dropping of Modules. (Penalties would apply if applicable)
 
Q: I feel lost about what modules to register.
A: 1) Read up what modules you want to study at http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergradprog/
2) Ask your seniors about picking of modules. Please note that curriculum might have changed, so be wise.
3) Ask the Academic advisors etc. A list of contacts are available at the Help Page.
 
Q: How can I get confirmation about the modules that I have registered?
A: Go to the NUS website at www.nus.edu.sg
Navigate through Students Matters -> Go to Undergraduate Services -> Student Academic Performance Data
Select Current Semester Module Taken
This would display your current modules enrolled.

You are advised to check this during and after the whole registration to make sure everything is correct.

Besides that, during your registration, print out your confirmation screen. 
You can use this as evidence in case of any disputes in your registration later.

 
Q: What is the difference between General Education Requirement (GER) / Singapore Studies (SS) / 
Unrestricted Electives (UE) modules and Cross Faculty Modules (CFM)?
A: GER/SS/UE Modules are for students matriculating in 2001/2002 (except for those coming in from poly). 
Matric No. U01xxxxx. Older batches of students, U00xxx, 99xxxx, 98xxxx students would still continue
to take and satisfy their CFM Requirements.
 
Q: Cross Faculty Modules (CFM) with and without quotas. How do I register?
A: For CFMs with quota, 
- You indicate your interest by registering at the SoC Online Module Registration.
- The indication of interest would be subjected to balloting by the Computer Centre.
- If you are successful in the ballot, you would receive an email from the CFM Administrator.
- The email would be send to the NUS Official NUSNET email.
- The email would contain an URL that you have to visit to confirm that you want to accept and read the module.
- It is only after your confirmation that you are enrolled in that module.
- There is a lapse date for the offer. Please read your email carefully.
- The CFM website has more information. 

For CFMs without quota, 
- You register like any other modules at the SoC Online Module Registration.
- The module you register would be automatically assigned to you.

  
Q: General Education Modules (GEM) / Singapore Studies (SS) / Unrestricted Electives (UE) modules. 
How do I register?
A: GEM/SS/UE modules for this semester comes with quota.
- You indicate your interest by registering at the SoC Online Module Registration.
- The indication of interest would be subjected to balloting by the Computer Centre.
- If you are successful in the ballot, you would receive an email from the GEM/SS Administrator.
- The email would be send to the NUS Official NUSNET email.
- The email would contain an URL that you have to visit to confirm that you want to accept and read the module.
