OVERVIEW

This area of research focuses on technology-enhanced pedagogical innovations that can enable exploitation of instructional technologies in the education sector. We aim to build on existing open-source technologies and customizing them to develop teaching materials that matches a predominant learning model or learning style. More significantly, the studies will delve into an evaluation on the effects of IT artifacts on learning outcomes with the use of eye-tracking devices and EEG, to determine if the IT artifacts elicits desired behavioral response form the subjects.

Development and Validation of a Representational Fluency Test for Primary School Students [Read More]

As part of a multi-year project that aims to develop digital learning environment offering adaptive remedial interventions for primary level students, we present the design of a new instrument that tests the representational fluency of primary school students.

Representational fluency refers to learners’ ability to reason and work among multiple representations. We identify the competences and design the questions that the Representational Fluency Test (RFT) has to cover, in light of the literature, local curriculum, previous national exams, and discussions with educators.

At present, we have conducted a pilot study to test and validate the RFT. The next stage of our project includes testing and using our proposed RFT. The long-term goal is to develop an intelligent system that provides remedial interventions customized for each student with representational fluency difficulties. We expect that our work can contribute toward a more personalized education at the primary school level.
