Information for Prospective Students

A. GRADUATE STUDIES LEADING TO HIGHER DEGREES

The NUS Bioinformatics Programme is not a PhD programme in bioinformatics. Prospective students interested in graduate studies in bioinformatics in NUS are invited to:

For general information about scholarships and graduate studies, please see http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/graduate/contacts.htm .

Prospective students already qualified under the various criteria in SOC/SOM/FOS are advised to identify a suitable Professor or Supervisor under the Bioinformatics Programme first, and to discuss their prospective research projects with them in advance. For a list of professors under the Bioinformatics Programme, please see http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~wongls/bp/people.html.

B. NON-GRADUATING INTERNSHIPS AND ATTACHMENTS

For non-degree internships or attachments, please note that we do not have any scheme for financing. All internships and attachments have to be on a fully self-financed basis. The Bioinformatics Programme may be able to waive bench fees and other charges on a case-by-case basis. All interested candidates are to provide their own finances for board and lodging and return airfare, stating their preference for a specific project topic and/or desired professor, and the duration of the internship/attachment period.

This category also applies to students from other institutions who have their own requirements for graduating, requiring internship or research attachments at institutions such as ours. In such cases, if fully financed, we can provide a statement of proof and reports certifying the student's successful completion of an internship or attachment.

These attachments are to be negotiated directly with the professor concerned. For a list of professors under the Bioinformatics Programme, please see http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~wongls/bp/people.html. Alternatively, for computer science, the prospective student can submit their application to the website https://mysoc.nus.edu.sg/~webcv/intern, and his application will be automatically circulated to all computer science faculty members.

C. COURSES AND TRAINING WORKSHOPS

From time to time, non-degree/non-graduating workshops and courses are organised. Please look out for these under the NUS BioInformatics Center.

These workshops/courses may or may not have certificates awarded, or Continuing Medical Education CME Points for Singaporean doctors depending on the workshop/course itself. Course fees if any are indicated on the event announcement itself.

D. OTHER COURSES

  1. S* Introductory Bioinformatics Course. Please see http://s-star.org for their announcements for the next course.

  2. AVIST. ASEAN Virtual Institute of Science and Technology offers a fully online bioinformatics course for ASEAN students. Please see http://www.avist.org.
