Professor Ooi appointed as Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor

In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Prof. Ooi has been appointed as a Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor with effect from June 1 2021.

Prof. Ooi is highly regarded as an international leader in the Database research community. He has been awarded numerous fellowships and awards, including the 2020 ACM SIGMOD E.F. Codd Innovation Award which is the highest honour in the Database area.

Not only is his research influential among researchers, he has actively translated his research via start-up companies - Thothe Technologies, yzBigData, Shentilium Technologies and Hangzhou MZH Technologies. Another new start-up of his is in progress . Besides that, he created the Apache SINGA - the first project in Southeast Asia to receive Top-level project status under Apache Software Foundation.

The Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professorship is awarded to eminent academics, who have demonstrated an exceptional level of achievement in their field of study and work at the forefront of intellectual inquiry. The Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professorship is supported by the Lee Foundation.
